Last night was an honor to help raise over $1 million 3 years in a row for JDRF. Amazing people in Omaha! As a diabetic I love you & thank you as well to the JDRF for making me the honorary chairman. A very special thanks to my friend Mark McGrath for making an unbelievably awesome performance.
Bret Michaels, The Only Headliner To Return In The Events History, Leads Krewe Of Orpheus In Lundi Gras Parade & Receives The Key To The City From New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu
On Monday February 27, 2017 multi-platinum recording artist, global entrepreneur and philanthropist Bret Michaels headlined the Krewe of Orpheus Orpheuscapade. Back by popular demand Michaels, an Orpheuscapade all-time favorite took time away from his sold out tour to lead the historic procession of 30 floats, 1,200 krewe members and 32 marching units. Michaels remains the only headliner in the event’s history to be asked to return by the Mardi Gras Organization, also performed after the parade celebration. “This is unprecedented in our 24 year history,” commented Captain Sonny Borey, “but response to Bret was so great when he rode and performed 5 years ago, we loved him and we had so many requests for his return, that we extended the invite. Lucky for us, Bret enjoyed Orpheus as much as Orpheus enjoyed Bret!”
Michaels, who fought and won the highest rated season of Celebrity Apprentice is also a Type 1 diabetic since the age of six and despite suffering a severely low blood sugar, rode the parade float for the duration of the parade which lasted nearly four hours. Bret was seen throwing beads to attendees, waving and meeting the crowd, including Mayor Mitch Landrieu who presented Michaels the key to the city as the celebration rolled on stating “Bret Michaels embodies the spirit of New Orleans that of resilience, inspiration, toughness and overcoming the toughest of times with a smile.” As Monarch on the Captains Float of the Lundi Gras evening parade themed On the Wave of a Dream, Michaels shared the duties with Will Forte and Jimmi Simpson. Bret embraces every bit of what the people of the City of New Orleans is and is now and will always remain a permanent part of the City and the celebration.
Huge thank you to Sonny Borey, Mayor Mitch and Harry Connick Jr.
