#MotivationMonday: Inspired to Never Stop
While promoting the 2003 release of Songs of Life, Bret gave the stories behind each song on the album. For the song “I Remember“, Bret gave this insight into the motivation behind the song –
Some diabetics consider the disease a curse, however, in some strange way, I consider it to be a blessing. It has taught me to overcome many obstacles. It has given me a drive to succeed and let nothing stand in the way of my dreams, even if I have to go twice as far to get half the distance. It keeps me inspired to never stop.

Over the years, he has written songs, raised awareness, been a spokesperson, and raised countless funds for not only Type 1 Diabetes specifically but diabetes in general. Bret has become an inspiration for many T1 diabetics just by continuing to live life to the fullest and showing them that you can do anything you set your mind to do.
From campaigns with the American Diabetes Association and the JDRF to giving his voice to California legislation for diabetes education, he works to make a difference in the lives of those living with incurable Type 1 diabetes and their families.
Most recently, Bret has raised his voice in support of national legislation that will cap the costs of insulin for Americans who sometimes have to make the difficult decision between their life-saving medications and expenses such as food, rent, and utilities during financially difficult times
It is important to note that there is no cure for Type 1 diabetes and those living with T1 require insulin to survive. Bret’s #KnowSurviveThrive campaign was born out of wanting to bring even more awareness to managing and living with T1 diabetes and debuted when he partnered with EASE T1D to work with Senator Richard Roth in California to pass legislation for diabetes education for schools throughout the state.
Bret released a statement in support of the Affordable Insulin Now Act this year and encourages everyone to reach out to their elected representatives to help get this Act passed through Congress. Millions of Americans will benefit from affordable life-sustaining medications.
